I don't. I sometimes see people and think I should because they don't look dangerous. Although, it seems I'm always in a hurry to get somewhere when that happens. I really should pick up someone, cuz I've been picked up before. It was really helpful. Also, my wife picked up this really old couple one time and they ended up sending us a thank you card and check. My wife tried to not accept the check but the old man got upset about the whole thing so she kept the money.
I think people do. But I don't. Ever. And only because I have yet to see a really good sign. You know, sometimes they have signs that explain why they're there in the first place? They might say something like "Vietnam Vet homeless hungry etc etc etc". But I have yet to see anyone with a sign like "UFO crashed and need to get to a repair station before the halogen fluid blows up and destroys the entire universe."
i generally only pick up hitch hikers in Tahoe, or Hawaii. even then, i have my rules: no food, pet, babies, or large parcels, excluding snow or surfboards. single passengers only unless they're small girls. must have clothes on. must not smell bad. why pick up hitch hikers? sometimes i need to hitch to get around. i figure i need the karma.
I have sometimes. I picked up one because I had my dog with me and figured I would be safe. The guy smelled so bad that the dog spent the entire time licking him. I'm not sure I would do it again.
I pick them up, then slam my car in reverse, and drop them off 5 miles back from where they started. Because I'm good enough, smart enough, and dog gone it - people like me.
my friends picked up two hitch hikers like two years ago. everything was fine but they were still a bit scared and it was more of a "lets do this so we can have a story to tell" thing i think

Now that would be worth picking someone up for.
I will pick up hitch hikers... I enjoy the conversation. But if my wife is with me there is no way she will even let me stop.
That was me. Thanks for nothing.
I saw one 2 days ago, too. I can't imagine anyone picking a stranger up... but I reckon it still happens.
M~
I thought hitchhikers were extinct.
The Jetson definitely stops. If it's a long distance ride (1hour or so), I usually let the hitchhiker drive.
This way, if they're ape-shit crazy you can keep both eyes on them, all the enjoying the services of a chauffeur that smells like asphalt and wet dog.
That's just me... I believe that most people are inherently good.

I don't, ever- but I do think some people still do....
I would never pick up a hitchhiker...just not safe these days I think. You don't see them very often where I am though.

Unless he was really cute.

Never. Unless I'm driving in Toronto as see you, of course.
I'd pick up a hitch hiker, of course she'd have to be hot.
That was ME!!!
Thanks for NOTHING!!! I had to walk 27.5 miles. :-(

I've never picked one up, but I will one day when I'm with my bf. By myself? No way!
I tend to not do it, but we don't have many out here.
